Chelsea find their way into the top-four after defeating West Ham 1-0

Timo Werner scored the only goal of the match, providing his club with a vital three-point lead against their competitors for the fourth position on the league table. 

Around the 43rd minute, after a nice interplay move involving Christian Pulisic and Ben Chilwell, who crossed the ball low and found the German striker. Werner then fired into the net from close range, tallying his sixth Premier League goal for Chelsea. 

Werner has undergone some criticisms of him not being able to score consistently and missing numerous big chances. He could have made it 2-0 for the Blues today; Mason Mount shot a powerful drive from the center, Fabianski made the save but found himself on the ground. On the rebound, Werner, who had to tap-in into the goal, missed from close range and earned a disappointing look from Tuchel. This was his first goal after a 14-game drought for both club and country.

West Ham struggled to create chances and ended the game with 10-men after an 80th-minute red card was shown to Fabian Balbuena, who leaped onto Chilwell’s leg with his follow-through after clearing the ball.

Thomas Tuchel was overall happy with his team’s performance as the outcome of this match takes the stress off the Premier League for some time and would let him focus on the big Champions League match against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

West Ham remains fifth in the table, naturally now three points behind Chelsea and one point above Liverpool, who places sixth on the table.
