AB de Villiers hits fastest-ever ODI Century in just 31 balls

The Record is broken, a new fastest ODI century record has been set by none other than Proteas’ very own, Ab De Villers. The skipper smashed the previous record held by Corey Anderson of New Zealand by scoring a triple figure in just 31 deliveries in less than an hour. Corey Anderson had scored one in 36 balls.

Currently reigning as the world’s No 1 ODI batsmen, Ab De Villers had once again shown everyone the reason why the ones who set the ranks are not wrong.

The West Indies team were severely battered as the action didn’t end there. Along with Ab De Villers new record, team mates Hashim Amla and Rilee Rosouw had also scored a century each.

This was not the only record ever broken by the Proteas’ skipper. In an earlier game he had beaten Sanath Jayasurya’s 19 year record of the fastest half century.

The 30 year old also matched India’s Rahul Sharma’s record of the most number of sixes made by an individual player in a One Day match that day.

But the action did’t last long and the South African wicket keeper was caught out in one of Andre Russels deliveries heading to the pavillion with an impressive score of 149 off 44 balls.

After his dismissal the crowd at the wanderers congratulated the South African player with a standing ovation. He also saluted by West Indies own top batsman Chris Gayle.

More record could have been broken that day as the South African team were very close to break the record for the most runs made by a team in an ODI match with a 439 for 2, just four runs away from the reigning record holders Sri Lanka who made 443 in a match against the Netherlands.

With the Bells of the ICC World Cup already ringing in the heads of many, this could be the best form Ab De Villers could ever be and the best team South Africa could ever have.
