Liverpool suffers five home losses for the first time in the club’s 128-year history.

The current Premier League titleholder, Liverpool, is now duped down to 7th place with 43 points on the table after their recent encounter with Chelsea, which ended in a 1-0 win against Liverpool home at Anfield.

Under the new management of the former Paris Saint Germain coach and Frank Lampard’s replacement Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea has played 10 matches, out of which 7 resulted in victories and 3 draws with 8 clean sheets and no loss yet. Chelsea now secured a position in the top four, placing 4th currently, making them eligible for Champions League.

Liverpool had one shot on target out of 7 attempts; an 85th-minute weak header by Georginio Wijnaldum, while left-winger Sadio Mane missed his shot with only Mendy to beat and Premier League topscorer, Mohammed Salah being subbed-off after 60 minutes into the game. Chelsea was still controlling the game with lesser possession than the Reds.

According to Goal, The last time they had to wait so long to test the opposition’s goalkeeper in a Premier League match at Anfield was in 2010, when they failed to hit the target until the 90th minute in a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. They finished seventh in the table that year.

Around the 42nd minute, the 22-year-old Mason Mount cut inside the box and beat Alisson with a powerful, grounded shot assisted by N’Golo Kante’s lobbed pass to the left-wing resulting in the game’s only goal. It could have been the second goal of the match had Liverpool not have been spared by the Virtual Assistant Referee; denying Werner’s chip shot in the 23rd minute. “It was a well-deserved win, a big performance and a big result,” Tuchel said.

Liverpool has had a very rough season contrasting to their 99 point domination in the League last year. With the likes of star players Virgil Van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, and Joe Matip injured, Liverpool is constantly lacking in the defensive areas.

Klopp’s side has failed to score from open play in more than 10 hours at Anfield, which resulted in them becoming the first titleholders to lose five home matches in a row.
