Indian Railway’s announcement of 17,000 Bio-toilets can help farmers in India

Indian Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhu, announced his Railway budget for the year 2015, earlier in the day today at the Parliament.

With Prabhu, announcing to install additional 17,000 bio-toilets on long distance trains, here’s how it’ll help in generating electricity and also help the poor farmers in India.

 1 Litre of urine gives you 6 hours of electricity.

— Urine is put into an electrolytic cell, which separates out the hydrogen.

— The hydrogen goes into a water filter for purification, which then gets pushed into the gas cylinder.

— The gas cylinder pushes hydrogen into a cylinder of liquid borax, which is used to remove the moisture from the hydrogen gas.

— This purified hydrogen gas is pushed into the generator.

 Urine can be used for fertilization of crops

— Human urine is indeed not an unwanted waste, but it is a useful resource. Adults produce about four to eight cups (one to two litres) per day, it’s a reservoir of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, the same elements that nourish crops; and it’s cheap to make.

— Urine, it turns out, is a huge and mostly untapped reserve of crop fertilizer. If Indians collected and applied 40 percent of their urine, the country could save $26.7 million (1.2 billion rupees) in fertilizer costs

— Human urine can be effectively used in agriculture by farmers, for food production will lessen our dependency on commercial fertilize and will bring cut-down in their expenditures.

It’s said that the Railway budget for 2015, is different in its self and said that, the budget was mainly focused on improvising the current policies which are being executed by the Indian Railways.
