Feeling feverish? High stress might be the reason

Feeling feverish is very common and natural. Many of us just take some antibiotic to feel better. But the recent studies have found out that the fever can be psychological in nature too. The research indicates that new phenomenon of psychogenic fever has been occurring.  Emotional events, high stress levels result in this psychosomatic condition which increases the body temperature. The references about this fever are already present in the medical literature but very few doctors in the world know about it. Limited number of doctors treat patients with psychogenic fever. Kyushu University’s Dr. Takakazu Oka treats patients for psychogenic fever at Graduate School of Medical Science. He has been studying the psychosomatic medicine and fever for long time now. The research paper published in ‘Temperature’ is authored by him. He reveals the latest findings from his experiments and clinical cases on the condition. Oka informed that there is not a single study of psychogenic fevers from the epidemiological perspective. Therefore we don’t have any data about how many patients are suffering from the condition today. Typical patient of this conditions shows symptoms such as high stress, other psychiatric diseases and higher body temperatures. Hence treating all symptoms other than temperature is important.

The more research into the topic by Oka will definitely lead to a path breaking discovery. The present treatments for this type of fever are similar to other stress induced diseases. The condition will be renamed as ‘functional hyperthermia’.
