Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud is currently receiving treatment in Jeddah for lung inflammation. The 88-year-old monarch was diagnosed with swelling in his lungs following medical examinations and is being treated with antibiotics.
The King’s health condition has prompted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to cancel his scheduled visit to Japan. The trip, set to begin on May 20, was postponed to allow the Crown Prince to remain in Saudi Arabia during his father’s illness.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern on Twitter, wishing for King Salman’s speedy and complete recovery. He stated, “Deeply concerned about the reports of the health of His Majesty @KingSalman bin Abdulaziz of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I join the people of India in wishing him a speedy and full recovery.”
Prior to the cancellation, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Dhahran. The meeting addressed various regional developments, including the situation in Gaza and the pursuit of a two-state solution.
King Salman ascended to the throne in 2015 following the death of King Abdullah. In 2017, Mohammed bin Salman was appointed Crown Prince, succeeding Mohammed bin Nayef. King Salman has undergone previous medical procedures, including gall bladder surgery in 2020.
