Unnao MP SakshiMaharaj stirred a hornet’s nest by saying all Hindu women must produce at least four children.
In Meerut on January 6, 2015 while addressing a gathering on the occasion of SantSamaagamMahotsava, he said, “The concept of four wives and 40 children will not work in India and the time has come when a Hindu woman must produce at least four children in order to protect Hindu religion.”

“I want to tell my Hindu mothers and sisters that if they don’t have five children, there will be no balance in India in future. Don’t misunderstand me. If my Hindu mothers and sisters don’t have five children, hardly any Hindus will be left in India. To protect Hinduism and Sanatan Dharma it is necessary for all Hindus to give birth to 5 children,” Mr Goswami, who is BJP’s district vice president in Birbhum, said at a public meeting on January 12, 2015.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)
The VHP wants the Modi government to make a law under which it will be mandatory for every Hindu couple to have at least two children.
“If anyone wants to have more children, they are free to do so but to protect the Hindu religion; every couple must have two children. We want the government to make a law in this regard,” said KanhaiyaLal Agarwal, the Lucknow head of the VHP, on January 16, 2015.
