The film, released at the box office on 11 January, received the strong worth of mouth and positive responses from the audience and has minted Rs 70 crore on the Box Office. Featuring Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina and Paresh Rawal in key roles Uri: The Surgical Strike, is based on the surgical strike which was carried out by the Indian Army on September 29, 2016, on seven terrorist launchpads across the Line of Control in retaliation to a terrorist attack on an army camp at Uri.

Interestingly, the makers of Uri: The Surgical Strike used a unique strategy to prevent piracy by trolling. The URI team themselves leaked the fake version of the movie online and those who tried to download the hefty 3.8GB worth data of the movie got a scene transition like this:
“Jab hmari Army unki territory me ghuskar aatank vaadio ko maar sakti hai. Toh kya hum aapke torrent me nahi ghus sakte?” Yami Gautam says in a video.
Vicky Kaushal then adds: “Picture dekhiye garv se, theatre me jaakar.”
The video ends with Yami Gautam and Vicky Kaushal telling viewers to watch the movie proudly in the theatres. And not by illegally downloading it. Truly, it was the best surgical strike on piracy.
