Kyoto City: Disseminating the Attraction of Kyoto to Overseas Through an Online Game “Rogue Company”


KYOTO, Japan–()–In collaboration with an oversea game company, Kyoto City will promote the attraction of Kyoto through an online game “Rogue Company” and implement efforts to create new connections with more than 20 million users around the world. Detail as follows.

1. Purpose

Kyoto City has been actively collaborating with domestic and oversea companies in order to protect, nurture, and carefully pass on the landscape, culture, and traditions of the world’s treasure as well as Japan’s precious assets “Historical City: Kyoto.”

Amidst the global pandemic where the number of domestic and international tourists to Kyoto City has been significantly impacted, Kyoto City and Hi-Rez Studios (Headquarters: Atlanta, US, CEO: Stewart Chisam, hereafter Hi-Rez) have started a new initiative under the mediation of KPMG Consulting Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Masahiro Miyahara, hereafter, KPMG Consulting). The purpose of the initiative is to connect with Kyoto fans around the world in an unprecedented digitized way in order to revitalize the region and to disseminate the attraction of Kyoto by launching a dedicated Japanese season in Hi-Rez’s popular online game “Rogue Company”.

2 Outline

“Rogue Company” is a free-to-play online shooting game in which users battle against enemy teams by making full use of unique weapons and abilities as a member of “Rogue Company” composed of mercenaries from all over the world. Since the open beta version started in September 2020, it has gained more than 20 million users worldwide, mainly in North America and Europe.

On August 10, 2021, “Rogue Company” Season 3 “The Kyoto Job”, which was produced in collaboration with Hi-Rez and Kyoto City, will be released in which a new map “Palace: Kyoto City, Japan” is added.

The season 3 was produced as a Japanese season with the image and inspiration of Kyoto. Kyoto City has provided Hi-Rez with information on Kyoto’s historic sites and cultural properties and collaborated to make the Japanese season more fascinating. In addition, after the release of Season 3, Hi-Rez will inform users all over the world of the charm of Kyoto on the official Twitter of “Rogue Company” and cooperate with the efforts to solicit donations to support Kyoto.
