Neha Kakkar was born in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India on June 6, 1988, to Rishikesh Kakkar, and Niti Kakkar. She is the younger sister of singer-composer Tony Kakkar and playback singer Sonu Kakkar. Her father used to sell samosa outside college and her mother was a homemaker.

At the age of four, she started performing at religious events and local gatherings with her siblings and attend four to five jagrans in a day which boosted her self-confidence and never felt of getting formal training for singing. At that time family went through a lot of financial crises. Living in one room rented house with a whole family was tough. Later, she moved to Mumbai with her brother, Tony Kakkar in 2004 to try luck.

She also shared a state of depression in her life in August 2019 after rumors of an affair with an Indian Idol contestant surfaced.
