Early Life

Mukesh Ambani was born in the British Crown colony of Aden on 19 April 1957 to Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben Ambani. He has two sisters, Dipti Dattaraj Salgaocar and Nina Bhadrashyam Kothari and a younger brother Anil Ambani.

He does his schooling from Hill Grange High School and completed his graduation from the Institute of Chemical Technology in the field of Chemical Engineering (BE degree). He later enrolled at Stanford University for an MBA but came back to India to help his father build Reliance.

He loves playing football and hockey and enjoyed annual trips to villages during his teenage age. He used public transportation, lived in a communal society, and never received an allowance.

Career

Mukesh Ambani started his career by running their family business Reliance Industries Limited in 1981. The company was being built from scratch. Ambani when came back from Stanford, he joined the company where his father, Dhirubhai treated him as a business partner even with little experience. He uses to report daily to Rasikbhai Meswani, the executive director at that time.

This principle into the company came into attention after Rasikbhai’s death in 1985 along with his father Dhirubhai suffering a stroke in 1986. All the responsibility shifted to Ambani and his brother.

At that time, Mukesh Ambani set up Reliance Infocomm Limited which was focused on information and communications technology now known as Reliance Communications Limited., Ambani, at the age of 24 was given charge of the construction of Patalganga petrochemical plant as the company was heavily investing in petrochemicals and oil refinery.

In 2002, his father died after suffering a second stroke which brought tensions among the bothers as the father left without the will. Their mother intervened and split the company into two, Ambani received control of Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited and Reliance Industries Limited.
