Micromax launches Canvas Lapbook, enters into budget laptop segment

The Micromax Informatics recently launched Canvas Lapbook. This marks company’s entry into the clam shell laptop category. Delhi based firm aims to increase personal computer penetration in the country by providing quality devices in affordable price brackets. In upcoming 18 months, the Micromax plans to capture 10 percent laptop market in the country. The new Canvas Lapbook only weighs 1.3 kilograms. The device looks premium, portable and easy to use. Lapbook is priced competitively at Rs.13, 999.  The device which is targeted at first time PC users in the country will be available for purchase via e-commerce player Snapdeal.

Intel Quad Core chipset clocked at 1.83GHz powers the lapbook along with pre-installed Windows 10.  The other hardware includes 11.6 inch HD IPS display, dual speakers, massive 5000mAh battery, 2GB DDR3 RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage which can be expandable up to 64GB. The company claims that the Lapbook will give 11 hours of battery life.

Shubhajit Sen, Chief Marketing Officer, Micromax told PTI,”Micromax has always strived to bring the best technology innovations to close the gap between consumer needs and available devices.” He further added that such affordable computing products will take ahead government’s Digital India campaign.

The data by market research firms show that the laptop market has been severely affected by tablets and smartphones. The latest figures indicate that the sales are down by 5.81 million units (15 percent). But many analysts have projected sharp 17 percent growth in segment in the next financial year, which may work in the favour of Micromax. The second generation of Laptab, company’s answer to hybrid laptops have been launched at Rs.17, 999 in the same event.
