Meta took this big initiative for the safety of Indian women, women must know how to avoid online abuse.

In many countries including India, women face a large amount of online abuse, for which META has started initiatives like ‘Women’s Safety Hub’ and ‘Safe Stree’. On Safer Internet Day 2022, Meta emphasized on these initiatives that will help keep women safe online. These initiatives will provide women with a range of tools and resources to better work in the online world in multiple languages, including Hindi.
Commenting on these initiatives, Madhu Singh Sirohi, Head of Policy Program and Outreach Facebook India said, “The safety and well-being of our community on Facebook and Instagram is a priority. We are continuously investing in it. In this endeavor, we have started a Women’s Safety Hub and a campaign, ‘Safe Stree on Instagram’. To take its benefits across the country, we are also making it available in regional languages ​​like Hindi. We aim to continue this effort through our products, policies and programs.
Women’s Safety Hub
Video on demand safety training is available in the Women’s Safety Hub portal. Visitors are allowed to register for live safety training. This will enable more women users in India to access tools and resources that can help them make the most of their social media experience. It was also introduced in Hindi along with 11 other Indian languages, so that millions of women, especially those who do not speak English, do not face language difficulties in accessing information easily.
‘Safe Woman’ on Instagram
It is an initiative of Instagram, with partner platforms like Yuva Media and Insights Company, Yuva and Pink Legal, which work to understand women’s rights and laws, challenge gender stereotypes and provide a safe online platform for women. The campaign unfolded in two parts – first, a 6 part training program and second, a content series on reel. It highlights the safety features created by a diverse group of 6 female creators in their respective mother tongues that are available to women on Instagram. The first is about ways to create a more inclusive online space.
Work towards empowering women
Meta has also introduced StopNCII.org in partnership with the UK Revenge Porn Helpline. In India, the platform works closely with organizations such as Social Media Matters, the Center for Social Research and the Red Dot Foundation and will empower women around the world to combat and stop the spread of Non-Conscious Intimate Imagery (NCII). Over the past year, the company has also introduced several security features in the Facebook and Instagram apps, such as hidden words, limits, comments control, multi-block and the option to hide likes.
