Hotstar to ramp up its original content: Invest Rs. 120 crore

Hotstar, one of the most visited live streaming app on the Web. Hotstar in aiming to collect its original content from Star India. They have invested a handsome amount of Rs. 120 crore. Hotstar, which is the highest number of download over 350 million and claims of 150 million active users currently accessed to it. They have so far relied on Cricket streaming, serials, Web series, shows etc and they have content from Star India channels.

Hotstar is now trying to compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime videos which are heavily in use nowadays. Hotstar is a video demanding application. Because of the Netflix and Amazon Prime videos, Hotstar has become less popular to its users. Due to it, it is trying to catch up some more live streaming of the live action.

Till now it has been telecasting IPL, kabaddi premier league, BCCI matches. So now they have decided to invest Rs. 120 crore so that they provide better content. These leagues benefit only 20% of the profit.

Sanjay Gupta, managing director told that “till two or three years back there were only 200 million screens available to the users, but now as the time passes it reached a mammoth of 600 million screens accessible to the public. The big change is that there is almost one screen available in each house.

And with the consumer expectation of content changing, Hotstar has decided to take a leap on content”.

For its first set of Hotstar, they have bonded with Hotstar special, Star India has partnered with storytellers including Sudhir Mishra, New Raj Pandey, Kabir Khan, Shekhar Kapoor, Mahesh Manjrekar, Vishal Furia and Salman Khan.

While chief executive refused to disclose the amount in his latest conference but gave a bit idea, where he is planning to deposit.

As per the reports, Hotstar has received a funding of 516 crores in July and star holding in the same month. In the same month company named Nikhil Madhok as EVP and content head for originals. However, the post for chief executive is still vacant after the resignation of Ajit Mohan.

Hotstar shows are now available in seven different languages Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam as the company believes that the users want that the content should be audible in their languages.
