Lenovo promises Android Marshmallow upgrades to selective devices by next year

The Chinese electronics major Lenovo has cleared the confusion about new Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade to its devices. Its popular mobile phones K3 Note, A7000, A7000 Plus and Vibe S1 will be getting software upgrades of latest android version. The company confirmed the developments at its Matrix Support page, which provides updates about android.

The post added that the Marshmallow update will be provided to Lenovo A7000 and A7000 Plus by September 2016. At same time, over to air (OTA) upgrades will be provided to Lenovo K3 Note. The Vibe series phones such as S1 and P1 will be receiving early upgrades in June month next year. As of now, all these models run of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Only Vibe P1 has Android 5.1 Lollipop preinstalled.

The handsets bought from specific operators under contracts or with any other customizations will not receive any upgrade, the company press release on the support page informed. The release dates are still subject to change. The company has made it clear that no other Lenovo phone will receive Marshmallow upgrade.

Till now, only Google Nexus and Android One device received latest android software upgrades but now companies like Huawei, Sony and Motorola are also stepping up their game in pushing Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates to their selective models. Lenovo has responded to the increased competition in smartphone market. Today, only 0.3 percent of android devices are running Marshmallow. The number is constantly rising. Android KitKat 4.4 is still most used android version with 37.8 percent of devices.
