Oppo to Launch World’s First In-Display Camera Phone

An exciting new technology milestone is just around the corner. Oppo will launch a word’s first In-Display camera phone and will be a part of the Mobile World Congress 2019 Shanghai exhibition today.

The company has shared a video on Weibo, a Chinese social network. The 15-second video discloses the front-facing camera housing technology for Oppo. A phone with thick top bezels with a conventional boat-shaped notch and a waterdrop notch. It then shows the Oppo Find X’s sliding camera design and the Oppo Reno’s shark fin pop-up camera design. Lastly, a phone with an in-display camera with a glowing ring around it.

This technology will allow the phone to have an uninterrupted display with no notch, or punch-hole camera (like the Honor 20 and Samsung Galaxy S10).

It also removes the need for a mechanically rising camera as found on the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom and OnePlus 7 Pro.

The phone is expected to have an almost full-screen design with very slim bezels on all sides. The power button is located on the right edge while the volume rockers are positioned on the left edge. A glowing ring will appear around it when the front camera is activated for taking selfies or authentication. Meanwhile, the pixels above the selfie sensor will work normally.

Along with Oppo, Xiaomi and Honor is also has expressed its interest in under-display camera tech, with also revealing that they are working on the new form factor.

In addition, Senior VP Wang Xiang, another Chinese tech giant, has confirmed that the company (Xiamoi) is working on an in-display front camera. He has detailed how this technology will work showcasing the ultimate solution for a full-screen display coexisting with a front camera.

Now, as we can see OPPO’s under display camera technology sound good and has done an amazing experiment. But, the OPPO’s VP Brian Shen has cautioned that it will have nothing on conventional camera modules and will likely to have some loss in image quality as it will be embedded a screen. As he already pointed out that no technology starts out as perfect.
