Ivory Coast crowned champions of Africa
The ecstatic Ivory Coast Crowd jumped with joy after goalkeeper Boubacar Barry denied a penalty from Razak Braimah of Zambia, sealing their victory and their first after 23 years.
The match was intense, both teams played carefully and strategically but none from either side were able to score in the 90 minute game. The same stalemate continued in the extra time as well and then finally it was up to the penalty shootout decider.
The penalty shootout also proved how equally matched both teams were as the shootout had an even score till the 8-8 until the Zambian goalkeeper’s failed attempt which ultimately made Ivory Coast the champions of Africa.
The victory also came in as a second title won by their coach Herve Renard, who had won the same title with the Zambian team in 2012, a feat never before achieved by a coach in the Afrikan Cup of Nations.
