Pele Predicts English Premier League 2018/19 Winner

Brazilian legend Pele has given his prediction on who are the favorites to lift the Premier League 2018/19. The Brazilian football maestro, who was born as Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the only player to lift the World Cup thrice (on 1958, 1962 and 1970) has been an avid follower of the game even at 77. After a successful transfer window, Liverpool are one of the Title contenders and Pele has tipped the Merseyside club to lift the Premier League Trophy after 28 years.

He has tweeted: ”It’s the start of the PremierLeague today. Who do you think will win? I think it’s the year of Liverpool, Alisson and Firmino! // É o início da Premier League hoje. Quem você pensa que vai vencer? Eu acho que este é o ano do LFC, com Alissonbecker e Firmino!”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp took the club to Champions League Final last season even after spending peanuts and even after the departure of key player Philippe Coutinho. Despite the net spend of  Klopp being second lowest in the Premier League, he got Liverpool back-to-back top-four finishes. In this transfer window, he has got financial support from the owners as he bagged Brazilian number one Alisson Becker, midfielder Fabinho, midfielder Naby Keita and Switzerland International Xherdan Shaqiri for a total of approximately 178million Euros. Fireworks are expected for obvious reasons.

To win the Title, both quality and squad depth is required and Liverpool certainly have that, this time around.

However, every top team apart from Tottenham and Manchester United have invested and strengthened key areas. Arsenal signed a lot of players in the last one year, Manchester City signed Riyad Mahrez in an already world-class Title winning squad and Chelsea signed top-end players like Jorginho, Kepa, Kovacic. So-called underdogs like West Ham, Everton, and Fulham have pulled off some class signings too. It will be an interesting League for sure.
