Rajinder Goel, the only bowler who took more than 600 wickets in Ranji Trophy passed away, didn’t play a single match for India

Rajinder Goel, the highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy, died on Sunday after an illness. 77-year-old left-arm spinner Rajinder took 637 wickets in Ranji. So far, no other bowler could take 600+ wickets. Apart from BCCI, many former cricketers expressed grief over his death.

Board President Sourav Ganguly said:

“We lost the domestic cricket veteran. His record shows how great a bowler he was. He played cricket for over 25 years. This shows how much his dedication to the game was.”

Rajinder Goyal played first-class cricket till the age of 44 years. He took 25+ wickets 15 times in a season in Ranji. Rajinder of Haryana took 750 wickets in 157 matches. 8 wickets for 55 runs in his innings was his best. He performed 5 wickets 59 times and 10 wickets 18 times. He also scored 1037 runs. Unfortunately, he did not play for India even once.

He also played from Patiala, Punjab and Delhi. However, he did not got a chance to play international cricket. On this, he said that I was born in the wrong era. Being Bishan Singh Bedi, it was difficult for me to play. He was a great bowler. Therefore, it is not malicious. Team India coach Ravi Shastri tweeted, Great bowler who always troubled the batsmen with accurate line length. In this hour of grief, his family is comforted. Virender Sehwag also expressed grief over his death and tweeted that he was a very humble human being. 750 first-class cricket, but never played for India. After hearing the news of the demise of former domestic cricketer Rajinder Goel, India skipper Virat Kohli on Monday paid his condolences. The captain said that the country has “lost a legend”.
