Mohammad Shami fiasco: BCCI includes Shami in Grade B contract list

Mohammad Shami fiasco: BCCI includes Shami in Grade B contract list, In a major relief for Mohammad Shami, BCCI has included the pace bowler in its annual player contract list and has offered him B Grade contract. The announcement came after BCCI’s anti-corruption unit submitted its report after investigating claims of Shami’s wife that Shami had indulged in acts of match-fixing.

Hasin Jahan, Shami’s wife, took the cricket world by storm, a couple of weeks back when she publicly accused Mohammad Shami of adultery and attempt to murder. She also claimed that Shami was involved in match-fixing.

Jahan also lodged a formal complaint against Shami with Kolkata police and due to these acquisitions, BCCI left Mohammad Shami out of the annual player contract list. In the last week, Committee of Administrators, the Supreme Court appointed body which is looking after regular matters of BCCI, asked Neeraj Kumar, chief of BCCI anti-corruption unit, to investigate this matter.

According to Jahan, Shami had received money from a Pakistani woman on behalf of a UK based businessman. BCCI stated that it has nothing to do with Shami’s personal life and they were only concerned whether Shami had broken BCCI’s code of conduct by accepting money from a Pakistani woman.

Kumar’s investigation revealed no connection between Shami and the so-called UK based businessman and the report by Kumar cleared Shami from charges of match-fixing.

Hence, BCCI now has awarded Shami an annual contract and has placed the pace bowler in Grade B category where he is accompanied by Dinesh Karthik, Ishant Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya and Umesh Yadav. As Grade B player, Shami will be receiving INR 3 crore for representing Indian cricket team during the period between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018.

This development also means that whatever happens in Shami’s case ahead, it won’t affect his professional life and he will continue to play for India. This news is also said to clear Shami’s road for playing for Delhi Daredevils in this year’s IPL.
