IPL 2019

IPL 2019: Three times when RCB had a ‘Royal Collapse’

The highly anticipated battle between RCB and CSK turned out to be an anti-climax as Bangalore had a royal collapse in the tournament opener.

RCB scored only 70 runs on a dry and slow Chennai wicket and registered the lowest score against CSK. However this abysmal performance shouldn’t come as a surprise for the RCB fans as the franchise has a history of having royal collapses.

We look at the three such Royal Collapses by RCB-

#3. 82 vs KKR in 2008-

Brenden McCullum 158 not out. Everyone who follows IPL knows this match.

The first match of IPL and it was McCullum who stole the limelight with his blazing hitting. And if his hitting came as a surprise, the RCB’s collapse which followed was a bigger shock for the cricket world.

Led by Rahul Dravid, the franchise scored only 82 runs and were bundled out in the 16th over. Only Praveen Kumar got into double figures as Ajit Agarkar claimed three wickets and Saurav Ganguly chipped in with two along with Ashoke Dinda.

#2. 70 vs RR in 2014-

This time it was the leg spin of Praveen Tambe which triggered another collapse for RCB.

The start was insane as within the first 14 balls of the game, Bangalore had lost four wickets including ABD, Yuvraj and Parthiv Patel. Kohli hovered for a while at the crease but he too failed to save RCB from shambles.

The team was all out in the 15th over and managed just 70 runs on the board. Royals steered home with ease in the 13th over.

#1. 49 vs vs KKR in 2017-

2017 was a disastrous season for RCB. And the team saw its lowest point against KKR, as they were fumbled out for just 49 runs which is till date the lowest score in IPL.

Chasing a modest total of 132 runs, RCB got a shock in the first over as Kohli was dismissed on his very first ball and the third ball of the innings.

However this was not the only damage Nathan Coulter-Nile inflicted. In his next over he sent back ABD and in the following over accounted for Kedar Jadhav.

Chris Woakes removed Gayle and Binny in the same over and RCB lost its last six wickets for just nine runs.
