IPL 2018

IPL 2018: Chennai Super Kings, team history, previous year’s performances

Chennai Super Kings is arguably the most consistent team in IPL history and has been part of the most number of finals as well.

The men in yellow enjoy a fiercely loyal fan base as CSK is one of the most popular IPL franchise. It is the only team in IPL which has retained its captain for all seasons. MS Dhoni is leading the team since its inception and in 2018 as well, he will be Chennai’s talisman.

Year wise performances in IPL

CSK were the runners-up in the first edition and since then have always booked a place in the top-four of the tournament. The team has benefited from the fact that they have a highly consisted and balanced core group which is led by a skillful and highly effective captain.

No other team has handled the big match pressure as well as CSK has in the tournament and hence they remain the most successful team in IPL so far.

Best Season- 2011

CSK won the IPL title for the first time in 2010, but their best season has been 2011, the year when they repeated their heroics with the pressure of performance mounting on their shoulders. They won all their home games and also won the fair play award for showing the finest sportsman spirit.

In this season they won 11 of their 16 matches and dominated proceedings. In the finals too they continued their winning streak and successfully neglected the threat of Chris Gayle who was in form of his life. The one-sided final against RCB was reminiscent of CSK’s stunning season.

Worst Season- 2009

The second season of IPL saw Chennai Super Kings losing six of their 15 matches, their lowest winning ratio in IPL’s history.

Although Chennai did manage to reach semi-finals, the team certainly lacked the application required to adapt to South African pitches.
