Top 5 Best Men’s Tennis Players of all time, Usually called Real Tennis in Britain, Court Tennis in United States and Royal Tennis in Australia, tennis is being played for such a long period of time that there will definitely be a long list of tennis legends and to mention top five among them is quite debatable. 

The top five tennis players that are being mentioned below are solely on the basis of number of Grand slam and Pro Slam titles that they have won. 

Before mentioning about the top tennis players, let us first know the difference between Grand Slams and Pro Slams. The four major tournaments that are played after the beginning of Open Era are known as Grand Slams and the ones played before the Open Era are known as Pro Slams and the players are called professionals and amateurs respectively. 

Top 5 Best Men’s Tennis Players

Ken Rosewall 

The first player to win Australian Open without losing a single set in the year 1971, Ken Rosewall has pocketed 23 titles out of which 8 are Grand Slam titles and the rest are Pro Slam titles. He is the only player to hold Pro Slam titles at three different surfaces from 1962 to 1963 and he was the holder of World No. 1 ranking during the early 1960’s. Having played 35 major finals, which is a major record, he’s won 9 slams in doubles as well. 

Roger Federer 

Currently ranked as world number 6 by ATP, Roger Federer is also referred to as GOAT (greatest of all time) because of his achievements and unbreakable records. Having won 20 Grand Slams, Federer has ruled the world No. 1 spot in ATP rankings for a record total of 310 weeks (with 237 consecutive weeks). Achieving a milestone of playing 30 Men’s Singles Grand Slam finals along with receiving the tour Sportsmanship Award 13 times, he’s been named ATP Player of the Year and ITF World Champion five times.

Rod George Laver 

The only player to achieve a calendar Grand Slam twice, Rod Laver has also been a part of five Davis Cup title wins, representing Australia, when Davis Cup was considered as important as the four majors. Holder of a record of winning 10 or more titles per year for seven consecutive years from 1962 to 1969, Laver’s 200 singles titles are the highest number of titles won by anyone in the history of tennis. Although he was banned from playing Grand Slams for the five years since the commencement of the Open Era, Laver has won 11 Grand Slam singles titles. Having excelled on all the court surfaces, he’s also won 8 Pro Slam titles which include the Pro Grand Slam in the year 1967. Spanning three years after and four years before the Open Era, Laver was ranked as number 1 tennis professional from 1964 to 1970. 

Rafael Nadal 

Winning 81 consecutive matches on the clay court, the longest single-surface winning streak, Nadal is currently ranked as world number 2 by Association of Tennis Professionals. Achieving a career Grand Slam at the age of 24, which is the youngest of five in the open era, Nadal has held the world number 1 ranking for a total of 196 weeks. After Andre Agassi, he’s the second player to complete a singles Career Golden Slam. Winner of singles Gold medal in the 2008 Olympic Games, Nadal has won 17 Grand Slam titles as well.

Novak Djokovic 

Having won 15 Grand Slam titles, he’s currently ranked as World Number 1 by ATP. The third man to hold all four major titles at once, he became the 8 th player in the history of tennis to achieve a Career Grand Slam. Having held the World Number 1 spot for over 230 weeks,Djokovic is the first Serbian player to be ranked No. 1 by the ATP and the first male player representing Serbia to win a Grand Slam singles title.
