Florida: Wildfires anticipated to increase within next 48 hours as weather conditions may deteriorate.

Florida: Wildfires

Florida has been set ablaze as four brush fires burned down a total of about 400 acres of land so far. It shut down a section of Interstate 75 in southwest Florida on Wednesday.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were coordinating voluntary evacuations in the areas near the fires, confirmed officials.

The fast-pacing fires were seen reaching for about 30 more homes in the Collier County area of Golden Gate Estates, according to the Florida Forestry Service. A toll section of I-75 known as Alligator Alley was shut down for almost 32 kilometers.

The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District led efforts to fight the blazes with two Lee County strike teams and one Sarasota County team.

The Collier County was forced to issue a compulsory evacuation. The fire is fast moving since after midnight Thursday. Fire officials there said the heavy winds would continue to contribute to significant increase in the fire movement.

The weather forecast says more gusty winds are expected at southern and central Florida, where wind gusts could reach 35 miles per hour. A wind advisory has been issued for these parts.

The wildfire isn’t the only weather Floridians should pay attention to, it has been found that an area of low pressure is trying to form near the Sunshine State in the next few days. This will cause further damage to the affected regions and may also contribute in the increase of the fire.

Gusty winds and heavy rain, especially for the southern part of the state, will prove to be a threat to the city. Some areas are also anticipating to see more than 4 inches of rain in the next few days. Some of the rain could also reach the fire zone east of Napes within the next 48 hours.

Minneapolis Updates: Outrage sparks amid George Floyd supporters

Minneapolis Updates

Violent protests are being led on over the death of an African-American man who died in police custody. A man was shot during the protests in Minneapolis for the second night. The protesters were looting stores bordering the police confined area. They were also setting fires that continued to burn until Thursday morning.

Minneapolis is in a bizarre state over the death of George Floyd as he died while in-custody of white police officers. The situation escalated since Wednesday night as fatal shooting near the site of the demonstrations due to widespread looting and deployment of tear gas.

The demonstrations in the city began peacefully for the second night but grew violent as time went by. It became very unsafe and hence the citizens were requested to leave the area.

His death is being investigated by the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The Mayor, Mr. Jacob Frey pleaded with residents to calm down. He demanded that charges must be filed against the officer who had his knee on Floyd’s neck. Police had said Floyd resisted arrest, but Frey said “I saw nothing that would signal that this kind of force was necessary.”

“I’m imploring our city, imploring our community, imploring every one of us to keep the peace. Let’s honor George Floyd’s memory,” he said in a phone interview.

He also tweeted this on his twitter account. “Please, Minneapolis, we cannot let tragedy beget more tragedy. The area along Lake has become unsafe. We are asking for your help in keeping the peace tonight.”

An unidentified victim was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center as the police officers found him at the protest site. He was found lying down on a sidewalk. At the hospital he was declared dead, they stated that he was shot.

Video of Floyd’s death has sparked outrage all around the country. The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said about the incident on Tuesday“tragic reminder that it was not an isolated incident, but a part of an ingrained systemic cycle of injustice that still exists in this country.”

President Donald Trump took to his twitter and said “My heart goes out to George’s family and friends. Justice will be served!”

George Flyod, 46-year-old man died due to police brutality

George Flyod,

A Minneapolis police officer had been kneeling on the neck of a handcuffed black man who complained several times that he couldn’t breathe. He was later pronounced dead. This was seen on a viral video being circulated around on social media for the last 24 hours.

The department took prompt action on Tuesday and fired the four officers involved in this incident. But this was certainly not enough for his family members as well as prominent individuals.

“I would like for those officers to be charged with murder,” his sister Bridgett Floyd said during a Wednesday appearance on the “Today Show.” “Because that’s exactly what they did. They murdered my brother. He was crying for help.” “And almost the whole world has witnessed that,” she added, “because somebody was gracious enough to record it.”

The state and federal authorities are investigating the case. Minneapolis police said officers were countering an alleged forgery on Monday evening. They suspected Geroge Floyd who was sitting in his car. The police claimed that he “physically resisted” after he got out hence their suspicion grew. The four Officers handcuffed Floyd who seemed to be suffering from medical distress. The police said he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead,

Videos were captured by eye witnesses who were present at the scene of the arrest. The video clearly shows that an officer had his knee pressed against the neck of the 46-year-old, who was handcuffed on the pavement. He was constantly complaining that his body hurt and he couldn’t breathe. Two officers handled the man on the ground while another stood nearby with his eyes on the bystanders as traffic passed.

The FBI are looking into it and have said they will present their findings to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota for consideration of possible federal charges.

The FBI also said that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting its own investigation into possible violations of Minnesota statutes.

PIA Updates: Careless pilot; ignores 3 warnings from the control room

A plane was crashed on 22 May in Karachi, Pakistan. On investigating the reason of the plane crash, 3 mistakes are coming out. According to a News Channel of Pakistan, Air Traffic Control gave 3 warnings to pilot. He turned a deaf ear towards the warning. In other words, the pilot didn’t obey the orders of ATC. On the other hand, the investigating team made by the pilot association didn’t have a single commercial pilot despite the fact the crashed plane was a commercial one.

On 22 May, a PIA plane A-320 was heading towards Karachi. This plane was crashed near Jinnah International Airport. In this accident, 97 were killed and 2 survived.

Warning 1 – Jio News with reference to ATC told that the when PIA plane A-320 was 15 nautical miles (27.78 km) away, it was at a height of 10,000 feet. At that time, ATC told the pilot to reduce the height to 7,000 feet to which the pilot responded that he was comfortable/satisfied by this height.

Warning 2 – When the plane was 10 nautical miles (18.52 km) away, the plane was 7,000 feet high. The height should be 3,000 feet to which he received the second warning from ATC. The pilot turned a deaf ear to this warning as well and responded that he was comfortable with height and will handle the situation.

Warning 3 – When the plane was not able to land in the first attempt, the pilot himself decided to go-round (roundabout motion). At the time of go-round, the plane was at a height of 1800 feet. ATC again issued the warning and told the pilot to take the plane to 3,000 feet to which the pilot responded he was trying to do so and in a few minutes, the plane crashed.

There was no lack of fuel

This is proved that there was no lack of fuel. According to reports, there was enough fuel to fly for 2.34 hours. It takes only 1.33 hours to fly from Lahore to Karachi. The investigating team is now working on was the pilot only responsible for the crash or some technical fault was also there which led to the crash.

CAA reports have been published

According to the reports of the Civil Aviation Association of Pakistan, the flight touched the runway 3 times when tried for the first landing. The sparks were also produced when flight rubbed the surface. The flight was taken off after the third touch by the pilot. It is assuming that during this time, the oil and fuel pump was damaged. It started to leak which was the reason for the plane not reaching a specific height to go-round and crashed. The crew members present in the cockpit didn’t notify the ATC.

Mr. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, was paying his tributes to the deceased members of the American military on Monday as to mark the Memorial Day. He spent most of the Memorial day holiday weekend playing gold for which he was criticized by the media.

“Some stories about the fact that in order to get outside and perhaps, even a little exercise, I played golf over the weekend. The Fake & Totally Corrupt News makes it sound like a mortal sin – I knew this would happen!,” Trump tweeted.

President Trump received some unexpected support from one-time Obama adviser David Axelrod.

“I don’t often defend this @POTUS but I don’t begrudge him a round of golf,” Axelrod, now a political commentator, said on Twitter.

Besides, it gives the rest of us a respite from those crazy tweets! Yes, it’s hypocritical for @realDonaldTrump to have attacked @BarackObama for seeking some relief from the pressures of the presidency on the golf course when Trump has logged many more rounds,” he said.

“It’s also hypocritical to attack Trump for it now if you defended Obama then.”

Before becoming president, Trump had repeatedly criticised his predecessor, Democratic President Barack Obama, for playing golf, including during the 2014 Ebola outbreak.

“There are times to play and times that you can’t play. It sends the wrong signal, You know when you’re president you sorta say, like, ‘I’m gonna give it up for a couple of years and I’m really gonna focus on the job’,” he said at the time.

The US death toll due to the novel coronavirus neared 100,000. It was reported that The United States has more than 1.6 million novel coronavirus infections, and 98,223 deaths as of Tuesday. Tension reignites between two largest economies, U.S and China

USA China trade war

Tensions have been reignited between the United States and China. The world’s greatest economies are in a state of anguish as a result of accusing each-other on various occasions since the virus spread and became a pandemic.

The virus has affected both countries as their economies have fallen into the deepest contractions since decades. This has contributed in destroying several employment opportunities. China has almost recovered from this pandemic as the number of positive cases have largely declined but other countries are still facing tremendous difficulties to rekindle their economies such as the U.S.

President Donald Trump’s recent threat of new tariffs on China will cause more inconvenience and affect their present tensed situations.

“Clearly, the timing of renewed trade tension could not be worse,” economists   of S&P Global Ratings said earlier this month. The threat of higher tariffs and the intensifying technology cold war could yet disrupt technology trade and investment, de-powering what still promises to be an engine for recovery in 2020.”

In January the deal only reduced some of the tariffs each side had placed on the other, it allowed Beijing to avoid additional taxes on almost $160 billion worth of goods. China had made a commitment to the US of buying $200 billion goods and services for two consecutive years.

According to the S&P economists, China would have had to increase its imports more than 6% each month for two years to honor the terms of the deal struck between the two countries. Instead, US imports fell 6% during the first four months of 2020.

“With consumer demand down in the Chinese economy, it’s unlikely that Beijing will be able to commit to buying more American goods or if they do commit … they will renege later” because of the lack of demand said Alex Capri, a trade scholar and visiting senior fellow at the National University of Singapore Business School.

Trump also does not have the next two years to find out whether China will honor its agreement or not. He will have to face the elections next in November.

World Bank announces $1 Billion to rekindle the Indian economy

The World Bank has announced USD 1 billion to India to combat the after effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday. The total commitment from the world bank to provide assistance to the poor and vulnerable in India has added up to USD 2 billion as the World Bank announced assistance of USD 1 billion to India last month.

The bank said that the focus of this fund will be to enable India to integrate all of its 400-plus society security schemes at a technology level.

“The project will be crucial to rebalance social security towards urban poor, as much as rural.  I think PMs ‘Atma nirbhar mission’ is very important in terms of directions and India is not making distinction between life and livelihoods in the aftermath of Covid-19,”” said Junaid Ahmad, country director, World Bank.

India was the largest beneficiary of the first wave of programme with a facility for US $1 billion.

Shrayana Bhattacharya, senior World Bank official said, “The World Bank said the support in collaboration with the government is aimed at integrating platforms so that people should not have to run around from one place to another to access a myriad of social schemes.

The deadly virus had caused several countries to announce a nationwide lockdown. India, with one of the largest lockdowns, has been severely impacted. It resulted in bringing the economic activities to a grinding halt, a huge percentage of the population now lack job opportunities especially in the informal sector. They have no source of income.

Out of the USD 1 billion commitment, USD 550 million will be financed by a credit from the International Development Association (IDA) – the World Bank’s concessionary lending arm and USD 200 million will be a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), with a final maturity of 18.5 years including a grace period of five years. The remaining USD 250 million will be made available after June 30, 2020.
