Why do many people consider their mother tongue inferior?

Have you ever witnessed a child speaking in English in front of guests? Most people would feel that the child is bright and intelligent and would achieve whatever he wants in future. On the other hand, if he talks about intellectual things in a regional language then he won’t be treated equally. Many are going to discriminate with that little child then we can imagine the situation.

Language is just a way of expressing why we keep talking about the importance of English while considering other languages inferior. What is the need to speak English when you meet new people? Aren’t you able to speak in your regional language or at least in Hindi?

The beginning of such an inferiority complex starts in school. In our school days, we were required to pay Rs. 5 as a fine to class monitor whenever we speak in Hindi. I do remember the situation when many children stopped talking or at least we used to avoid speaking or many times we used to avoid speaking or many times we used to see whether the class monitor was keeping an eye on us or not. A child in Class 3 or 4 was told to speak in English and not in Hindi. So, is that child going to consider their mother tongue as equivalent to the English language?

English is a language which you need to know when you are dealing with companies, clients and many others. Anyone can learn more than two languages without considering it inferior or superior.

The people of France are one of the best examples because most of them speak in French and consider their language as a matter of pride. Our mother tongue connects us with people and develops a sense of brotherhood. So, one need not consider any language inferior or superior. Just see it as a language to interact.
