What are the six fundamental freedoms available to citizens of India?

Personal liberty is the most important right. If the citizen is not given freedom, they can’t express themselves. Article 19 of Constitution of India provides six fundamental freedoms to its citizens which are subject to reasonable restriction.

Now, you would think if restriction is imposed on freedom then what is the need of freedom?

No Modern state cab guarantees any individual absolute right. If the person is given absolute liberty then soon the results are going to be ruined. When you get freedom, you also get power and responsibilities and absolute power corrupts the person absolutely.

Article 19(2) to (6) of Constitution of India deals with reasonable restriction and Article 19 (1) of Constitution of India provides six fundamental freedoms which are as follow –

1 Freedom of Speech and expression

2 Freedom of Assembly

3 Freedom to form association or union or cooperative societies

4. Freedom of movement

5. Freedom to reside and to settle

6. Freedom of profession, occupation, trade the r business.

In A. K. Gopalan v. State of Madras ( AIR 1951 SC 21), Justice Patanjali Shastri made an observation that “man as a rational being desires to do many things, but in a civil society his desire have to be controlled, regulated and reconciled with the exercise of similar desire by other individuals.
