These former war heroes and soldiers of the nation watched the Prime Minister’s 90 minute speech intently on large screens. The prime minister mentioned about the OROP, saying that the matter requires a lot of attention and deliberation and till now has not been able to come up with any resolution. This ultimately led to even more frustration and anger on the already frustrated veterans, who said that they had rejected the PM’s message.
Some of the angry protesters questioned the PM’s speech when he called the citizens of India as team India saying ” PM says team India, team India. Are we not team India?”
Earlier when opposition Rahul Gandhi of the congress tried to join them in their protest, he was shunned away by the ex-servicemen. They said that his party was equally responsible for the failure to implement OROP during their power and didn’t wanted him now to use it as a political stage.
Before coming into power, the BJP promised that it would work hard on implementing the one rank one pension scheme which would benefit over 25 lakh ex servicemen and widows.
The protesters in Jantar Mantar said that they are willing to fast unto death and are even planning to carry out the protest to election bound states like Bihar
