PM Modi to address 100 years of AMU, a speech of a prime minister for the first time since 1964

Since Lal Bahadur Shastri in the year 1964, no Prime Minister has given a speech here. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, also never gave a speech here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the centenary celebrations of Aligarh Muslim University today. Prime Minister Modi’s speech will be through video conferencing. During the event, the Prime Minister will also issue a postage stamp. Vice-Chancellor Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin and Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will also be present on the occasion.

It’s not only for AMU university as it is celebrating its 100 years but after Lal Bahadur Shastri in the year 1964, no Prime Minister has given a speech here. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, also never gave a speech here.

Controversy has also started in the university regarding Prime Minister Modi’s speech. Some students and teachers here are opposing Prime Minister Modi’s speech. Prime Minister Modi’s speech will be through video conferencing. But the security of the university has been increased due to the possibility of any untoward clutches.

Irfan Habib, a well-known commentator opposing Prime Minister Modi’s speech, said that it is not a matter of pride for the university. He said, “Scholars come to the university. It does not matter whether PM Modi is attending this function or not.

PM’s speech is also being welcomed

On one side, while the Prime Minister is hearing the voice of protest against his speech and on the other hand, it is also being welcomed. Some teachers of AMU have welcomed the event. Rehan Akhtar Kazmi, Professor of the Faculty of Theology at the University expressed happiness that PM Modi will join the online program as the chief guest.

He praised the AMU Vice Chancellor’s effort and named it a historic moment for the university, as well as sharing enthusiasm among faculty and students. He said that two years ago PM Modi shared his desire to see Muslim people in Vigyan Bhawan with Quran in one hand and computer in the other and this event will be a new beginning for the Muslim community.
