James Holmes the man responsible for killing 12 people and injuring more than 70 more was given the life imprisonment without any possibility of a parole by a jury in the US state of Colorado.
It is believed that the defendant’s claim of James being mentally unstable during the time of the attack saved him from the death penalty.
There was mixed reaction inside the courtroom as relatives of the deceased as well as those injured and James” own parents were present during the hearing.
All throughout the 3 month trial, Holmes did not even once try to testify in his own defence.
Holmes used to be a student at the University of Colorado doing his phd in neuroscience.
According to his friends, he was described as being socially awkward but not to the extend of showing any warrant of committing any mass murder of any sort.
On 20 July 2012, during the screening of The Dark Knight Rises, Holmes armed with an assault rifle, a shotgun and a pistol somehow made his way inside the theatre and then began throwing smoke cannisters and shooting at the people.
