Mumbai has been raining continuously since Tuesday. This has created flood-like conditions in the entire city. There is still a red alert of rain in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar. 20 teams have been deployed in Maharashtra for relief and rescue. Mumbai alone has 5 teams. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has appealed citizens not to leave the house today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also had a conversation with Chief Minister Thackeray.
The Chief Minister held a meeting with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials. Throughout the night in Mumbai, the NDRF team kept trying to evacuate the stranded people. Due to the working day, office-goers may have to face problems.
Most affected areas
Waterlogging has been reported in areas such as Fort, Churchgate, Marine Drive, Girgaon, Breach Candy, Pedder Road, Haji Ali. Roads were flooded in Girgaon, Babulnath Area, Pedder Road, Balkeshwar Area, opposite Wilson College in Charni Road. Many of these areas lost power. Water has entered the casualty ward of JJ Hospital. Some hospitals in South Mumbai have also been affected due to rain. Some tiles of the Jaslok Hospital building have fallen.
Prime Minister promised all possible help
Late Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and inquired about the worsening conditions in Mumbai. The PM assured Thackeray of all possible help.
Stadium and Stock Exchange also suffered losses
The speed of the winds was so strong that heavy crane overturned at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). Similarly, the name board on the building of the stock market was also broken. DY Patil Stadium has also suffered damage. Many of its rallies flew. The pillars of the high-light of the Wankhede Stadium in South Mumbai were seen moving with strong wind.
NDRF rescues 290 passengers
The NDRF and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) safely evacuated 290 passengers stranded in the two local trains. According to sources, dozens of others, including the state’s Social Justice Minister Dhananjay Munde, were stranded for nearly three and a half hours in traffic on the Eastern Freeway here. He was going to attend a meeting of NCP leaders at Yashwantrao Chavan Center here.
46-year-old record of rain broken
Mumbai’s rain on Wednesday looked more dangerous than the day of the storm. Colaba received 294 mm of rain in 12 hours in August after 46 years. This led to a lot of water on the roads in South Mumbai after years. In August, the highest rainfall in Colaba in 1974 was 262 mm, while on Wednesday it recorded 293.8 mm. The rains that have been continuing for the past two days increased further on Wednesday. Due to strong winds and rain, life in Mumbai was affected.
Water entered into COVID-Health Center
Pramod Mahajan COVID Health Center situated in Bhayandar East was inaugurated virtually by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday. A temporary shed with a cost of crores of rupees has been built in this center, which is equipped with medicines and other medical equipment, but after a few hours of rain, water also entered it and the patients admitted here were shifted.
22 people rescued in Palghar
Palghar Rural Police of Maharashtra rescued 22 people in the flood situation following heavy rains in the district. These include a 5-year-old girl, who climbed a tree and was stuck there for more than 4 hours.
