Due to increase in the cases of Coronavirus in Mumbai. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) made wearing mask compulsory in public places because the number of Coronavirus cases rise to more then 1000 . Mumbai is the first city in India to make masks compulsory.
On Wednesday According to BMC notification “Mumbai is a first country to wear face masks and that have been made compulsory for all Mumbai citizens wanting to move around in the city, in any public places for whatever reasons”
In a decree, BMC Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi said the measure was necessitated as studies have revealed that wearing face masks can substantially reduce the spread of coronavirus from and to persons coming in contact with each other, besides other mandatory social distancing measures already implemented.
“I have come to the conclusion that the larger public interest making wearing of mask by any person who moving in any public place is necessary,” Praveen Pardeshi, Mumbai Municipal Commissioner said in a letter.
He added that “all persons who step out in public places, or while travelling in a vehicle or in a public gathering should wear a mask at all times”.
Further the commissioner said that “The masks should be a standard mask available with the chemist or it should be even washable homemade masks and can be used after proper washing and disinfecting”.
If any citizen of Maharashtra will diobey this rules and instructions will be punishable under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code (48 of 1010).”
India’s financial capital Mumbai , has been under lockdown alongwith the rest of India to Fight with the COVID-19 outbreak.
While the government is yet to decide whether to lift the 21-day lockdown that ends on April 15, Reuters reported quoting sources that “the lockdown in Mumbai may be extended given the number of coronavirus cases that have been uncovered in the city”.
