Covid-19 updates: New strategy to be followed since June 1st

The Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah held a meeting today to decide how to tackle Covid-19. A day earlier, Mr. Shah arranged a meeting with all the Chief Ministers to know their views on the extension of lockdown after May 31st. The Chief Ministers have shared their views on the further lockdown strategy. The Prime Minister has been reviewing the entire lockdown period to plan the new strategy from June 1st .

In India, the number of positive Covid-19 patients have reached 1.64 lakh as of Friday. In the last 24 hours, 7,465 new cases have been reported making it the highest number till date. It is the ninth worst hit country in the world.

The worst-affected state in the country is Maharashtra with nearly 60,000 cases and 1,982 deaths so far. Mumbai, the state capital, has 35,000 confirmed cases. It is the highest affected metro city. Tamil Nadu stands at second place as it has 827 new coronavirus cases on Thursday. It is the second consecutive day of record spike in numbers. Overall, the state has 19,372 COVID-19 cases and has reported 145 deaths.

In West Bengal a minister has recently tested positive for COVID-19.The minister has been advised to follow the home quarantine measures after his test results came out positive on Thursday night. It has been reported that His wife has also tested positive for the virus.

China has managed to take control of the situation as it reports very few cases at present even though it was the first country where the novel coronavirus emerged in last December. Since then it has only spread to all parts of the world infecting more than 69 lakh people globally. More than 3.5 lakh have died too across the world specially in countries like the U.S and Italy.
