Anonymous closes more than 20,000 ISIS propaganda accounts on social media

Anonymous, the international hacking collective has launched full scale war against the Islamic State after Paris attacks. The #OpParis has pledged to wipe out the Islamic State supporters from the internet after the organisation claimed the responsibility of November 13 attacks on the French capital.  The latest reports reveal that the hacktivist organisation has taken down more than 20,000 ISIS related accounts on social media.

French, American and Russian military forces are already targeting ISIS’s locations on ground using air strikes. Looks like Anonymous is contributing to the campaign by fighting with ISIS in cyberspace. But instead of missiles and ammunition, the hackers are using deadly code to finish terrorist organisation’s propaganda machinery.  The Anonymous provided the list of all targeted accounts along with more details about how to contribute to the fight against ISIS. The YouTube video posted by Anonymous informed that the organisation aims to delete all accounts used by terrorist group.

ISIS managed to recruit thousands of fighters using social media in past few years. The strategy worked well to get fighters from western countries. Anonymous spokesperson warned ISIS,” “ISIS, we will hunt you and take down your sites, accounts, emails and expose you. From now on, there is no safe place for you online. You will be treated like a virus and we are the cure.” The hackers group already has vast network of data miners, spies and intelligence gathers across the world which is helping in targeting ISIS.
