After beef, it's meat ban in Mumbai for four days

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have ordered for a four day ban on sales of beef and slaughter of any animal in Mumbai during the upcoming Jain community’s Paryushan fasting period. This move by the BMC has sparked outrage throughout the city. BJP’s own ally Shivsena denounced this move as “appeasement”and “religious terrorism”.

The move to ban beef came after it’s Thane counterpart issued an order to ban beef for 8 days. The BJP in response to all the criticisms said that it was not a move to ban but were being tolerant towards every community on the basis of secularism.

The ban however wont be levied on the sales of seafood and chicken.

Officials however claimed that the ban on beef is based on the resolution of the 1964 and 1994 Corporate resolutions and the 2004 state government resolution. Moreover this ban has always been imposed during Paryushanm, It was usually banned for two days, only this time by their discretionary powers they added two more days.

The congress lashed out at the BJP and blamed the BMC for allowing it. Other state parties like the MNS and the Raj Thackeray led Navnirman Sena has also condemned the BJP for this move.
