Bollywood’s Deepika Padukone’s JNU Visit Backfires, Chhapaak Might Take The Fall

After we see Bollywood showing their strength at Carter Road, Mumbai Deepika Padukone went to Jawaharlal Nehru University to express solidarity with faculty and students on Tuesday which many claims are just a PR tactic.

The actress was in Delhi to promote her film Chhapaak and later joins the protests at JNU against the violence that happened on campus on Sunday evening. She also meets Aishe Ghosh who is the injured president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union(JNUSU).

This gesture from a Bollywood star like her received significant attention considering Bollywood’s usual way of not taking a stance at all in light of protests held against Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) or National Register of Citizens(NRC).

It begins with actress Sayani Gupta calling out the “selfie gang” on social media to issue statements. Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra, Swara Bhaskar, Richa Chadha, Kokona Sen Sharma, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapur, Huma Qureshi, Tapsee Pannu, and many from Bollywood are raising their voices against violence for an India that is secular and syncretic.

But this has backfired on Deepika as many claimed she did so for mere promotion. Deepika’s gesture being criticised heavily online for making a serious issue a part of a film promotion drive. These backlashes include a new protest online asking everyone to not watch her upcoming movie Chhapaak.

#boycottchhapaak is the second most trending topic in a twitter right now with around 458K tweets with people posting screenshots of booking cancellations for the movie. Many even resorted to talking ill about Ranveer Singh as he is Deepika’s husband or blocking and unfollowing her on twitter. Some even blame the movie for changing the name of the acid attack criminal from a Muslim name to a Hindu one to protect Muslims.

On the other hand, she also has support from many like Anurag Kashyap who said that’Women are Stronger beings’ and asking followers to prove him right by booking more tickets for the movie Chhapaak and by supporting people like her. She even receives support from Swara Bhaskar and Anubhav Sinha.

2019 highlighted the astonishing performances of celebrities like Ayushmann Khurrana, Vicky Kaushal, Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar. But all the fans were missing a few ever-green stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, etc from the silver screen.

This year was totally owned by Akshay Kumar. Along with him, there comes Ayushmann and Shahid Kapoor.   Some top most films of 2019 like ‘Super 30’, ‘Bala’ and URI raised the bars of Bollywood.

A few stars that we missed on screen are:

  1. Deepika Padukone

Last seen in Padmavat, Deepika had no release in 2019. After her marriage, she was seen enjoying her personal life and doing some events but no movie of her came in 2019. We definitely missed her but to our relief, her upcoming movie Chapak looks promising.

  1. Shah Rukh Khan

King Khan of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan treated 2019 as a silent year. Unlike other stars on this list, he hasn’t commented on his upcoming projects too. His last release was ‘Zero’ which did not perform well at the box office. After that, he wasn’t active in the industry, but he was seen spending quality time with his family. The rumour is, he will collaborate with Mollywood director Aashiq Abu for his next film will be scripted by National Award-winning scriptwriter Syam Pushkaran.

  1. Janhavi Kapoor

Bollywood Newbie Janhvi Kapoor did heart-stealing work in her debut film Dhadak. After ‘Dhadak’, she got busy with many projects for 2020 because of which, she had a quiet year at the box office. Her upcoming projects include ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’, ‘RoohiAfza’, ‘Dostana 2’ and ‘Bombay Girl”.

  1. Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir gave blockbuster film ‘Sanju’, for which he received many accolades. He was a topic of discussion for a while with his upcoming project ‘Brahmastra‘ which is being directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film was going to release during Christmas this year, but it was later pushed to Summer 2020. Ranbir will be seen with his real-life girlfriend, Alia Bhatt on screen for the first time.

  1. Anushka Sharma

Along with Shahrukh and Katrina, Anushka was seen in Aanand L Rai’s ‘Zero’. Anushka was seen accompanying her husband Virat for international tours but she recently didn’t announce her upcoming project. We are dying to see her on-screen.

Kangana Ranaut upcoming film Thalaivi is something people were looking forward to but it looks like the first look of this film is not getting appreciated by netizens. It seems that the poster has failed to make an impact and getting trolled mercilessly. If you don’t know, Thalaivi is a biopic of the late politician, Jayalalithaa – the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. She passed away on December 5, 2016, because of a cardiac arrest. She was called ‘Puratchi Thalaivi’ which means a ‘revolutionary leader’.

The poster was released on Kangana’s Instagram handle and people can’t stop trolling Kangana and the filmmakers for showing poor prosthetics used on her face! Many people suggested keeping Kangana’s face as it is because all that is important is showing the life story, instead of making her look like Jayalalithaa.

The first poster was captioned as, “The legend we know, but the story that is yet to be told! Presenting #KanganaRanaut, in & as #Thalaivi. A film by #Vijay, arriving in cinemas on 26th June 2020.”

If you look at the poster, you can see Kangana in dark green cape with a border and a bottom, with a big bindi on her forehead.

A short teaser of the film was also released on YouTube. You can watch the teaser here.

Actor Arvind Swamy, best known for his roles in Mani Ratnam’s “Roja” and “Bombay”, will portray the role of late Tamil superstar and former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran in this film.

In the beginning, Kangana admitted that she was finding it difficult to learn the Tamil language for the film. She had to learn the language as per demand of the film’s script. Other than Tail lessons, Kangana got herself into Bharatnatyam classes for her role. She also spent a lot of her time on prosthetic makeup sessions.

The film “Thalaivi” is a multilingual and will release in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. A. L. Vijay is directing the film and the film is now scheduled to release on June 26, 2020.

On the work front, Kangana was seen in Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and Judgemental Hai Kya this year. Next year she will be seen in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s kabaddi film Panga and the action film titled Dhaakad.

The Tashkent Files Review : A Political Drama With Poor Execution

The Tashkent Files
Spread the love

It is so easy to answer that what lies on 2nd October? Of course, because it is Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. Are you forgetting something important? No, it is not that Ajay Devgan went to Panaji with his family or something like that. For your information, 2nd October is the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri too. As his birth anniversary is systematically ignored, so is the history and mystery behind his death. But Bollywood keeps nothing secret and try to touch every aspect and hence the movie The Tashkent files came into the picture.

The Tashkent files released on 12th April and got not so good response from the audience. It earned 4 Crores in 8 days. The film is based on the mystery behind the Indian former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s death. He died in Tashkent on the day after signing the Tashkent declaration due to a heart attack. (At least this is what ‘Authentic’ sources say) but his relatives and many other people denied that the heart attack was the reason for the death.

The story of this film is written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri.  The film features Shweta Prasad Basu,  Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty in lead roles. Shweta played the role of a young journalist who is working for a renowned news agency. She is accused of spreading fake news on Twitter. Her boss warns her to bring a trending topic in a week or else resign. On her birthday, she gets a call saying that the person on call will give her the scope and trending topic for her next news if she answers a few questions.  And that’s how the story of the film begins with ‘the mystery behind Shastri’s death’ as a scope. The acting of lead actors is nice, but the movie got poor reviews from critics and many are saying that the movie is politically inclined.

Speaking of story and plot, it is nicely told without engaging and blaming anyone directly, but some incidents seem baseless in the movie. The execution of the story is inconsistent. Surely, the film brought the past in front of everyone but it could have been done in a more theatrical way.

We would give 3 out of 5 stars to this movie.

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota Movie Marks The Debut Of Bhagyashree’s Son!

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota
Spread the love

Vasan Bala’s Upcoming Bollywood film ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ is written and directed by him.  Ronnie Screwvala is producing this film under his banner RSVP Movies. The film rotates around a bunch of weird characters. This film marks the debut of Bhagyashree’s son Abhimanyu Dassani. He is playing the role of Surya, the protagonist. He suffers from congenital insensitivity to pain. The story is about Surya’s try to win against a bunch of robbers. His formidable and fierce friend Supri helps him in his motive. Radhika Madan is playing the role of Supri.

Surya has already got a place in the Tinkle magazine and National Geographic Magazine for his not so usual role. The movie has humorous rap track Rappan Rappi. It also has around eight songs such as Tere Liye, Life Mein Fair Chance Kiska (Jimmy Mani Song), Dream Time, Kitthon Da Tu Superstar, Nakhrewaali, and Shaolin Sky.  Popular composer Karan Kulkarni directed the music for this film.

An inspiration for the story of Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota

A child inspired Vasan Bala to make this film and this is surprising. Vasan Bala met a child with congenital insensitivity to pain at a dental clinic. The kid was very insensitive to pain and he did not require anaesthesia during any process. According to Vasan, congenital insensitivity to pain means the person is born without pain receptors and hence, becomes insensitivity to pain. But the film highlights the fact that males who don’t feel pain are treated as superheroes by our society. But in real life,  it’s a health condition.

‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Mahesh Manjrekar and Jimit Trivedi. Bala is paying a tribute to the filmmakers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee aka Hrishi-da known as the pioneer of middle-class cinema and the award-winning filmmaker Sai Paranjpye by using their middle-class environment in the backdrop.

The film premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the People’s Choice Award: Midnight Madness.  MAMI Film Festival screened this film and gave a standing ovation to Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota.

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota will release on March 21, 2019. The film is getting big thumbs up from the critics already.
