The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), Government of India has directed Twitter to block around 250 tweets / Twitter accounts. Twitter has blocked these accounts. These accounts are accused of spoiling the atmosphere by making fake, inappropriate and provocative tweets.

The Ministry has taken this decision after an appeal from the Home Ministry and the security agencies. It was said in this appeal that during the demonstration of farmers, they are creating problems and the security of the country is threatened by them. In fact, these accounts target the government with several hashtags, regarding the farmers’ movement running on three borders of Delhi

The government has taken this decision after an appeal from the Home Ministry and security agencies. Inaccurate and provocative tweets were made on January 30 from these accounts. Earlier too many such tweets were done. Before 26 January, Delhi Police had identified 350 such accounts, these were being monitored. The police had said that these accounts can do something wrong in the capital on January 26, they can use it to spread rumors and provoke the crowd. The police were keeping an eye on these accounts being operated from Pakistan, but the farmers spoiled the entire atmosphere on the day of the tractor march.

The accounts that were blocked include accounts like Kisan Ekta Morcha, The Caravan, Manik Goyal, AAP Punjab chief Jarnail Singh, Ajit Ranade, Manav Jeevan, Tractor2twitr and jatt_junction.

According to the agency, the central government had earlier sent a legal notice to Twitter regarding these accounts tweeting about the farmers who are protesting against the agricultural law. Twitter took this step after the notice. Apart from this, many such accounts have been discovered by the police which are being monitored. Since January 26, the police have blocked 1000 such accounts or asked to take action on Twitter about them so that no rumors can be spread.
