Roads and houses damaged after 2 powerful quakes in Mizoram

Mizoram experienced two powerful quakes in a span of 12 hours. The first quake was experienced on Sunday evening near about 4 pm with a magnitude of 5.1 as per Richter scale. Exactly after 12 hours, a quake of 5.3 magnitudes as per Richter scale was experienced on Monday morning at 4 am. The 2 powerful quakes caused the damage to houses and roads. As per reports, no casualty was reported.

As per reports the depth of the quake was 20 km while the coordinates of the epicentre are 23.22 (latitude) and 93.24 (longitude).

According to National Center of Seismology, the epicentre of the morning quake was at Zokhawthar in Champai district of India- Myanmar border.

The tremors were felt in various parts of the state including the state capital Aizawl and Champai district. Horrifying pictures are going viral on several social media platforms. The pictures show the damage to roads, building and highways with open cracks.

The full damage is to be confirmed by the authorities yet. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi and Union Minister Mr Amit Shah have shown their concerns to the damage due to earthquake. They have also assured all the bits of help and aids to the state government.

Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi tweeted, ‘Spoke to the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Shri @ZoramthangaCM Ji on the situation in the wake of the earthquake there. Assured all possible support from the Centre.’

Union Minister Amit Shah tweeted, ‘I have spoken to Shri @ZoramthangaCM  Ji, Chief Minister of Mizoram, to review the situation after the earthquake tremors in the state. I assured him all possible support from the central government. Praying for everyone’s safety and well being’

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga took to his official Twitter handle and confirmed, “Two earthquakes rocked Mizoram within 12 hours. Damage assessment has been undertaken by concerned MLA & district administration. Fortunately, no casualties reported so far. Thanking PM & Home Minister for their assurance of support.”
