Government launched ‘Mausam’ app, accurate information will be available for the weather of 450 cities

Notifications will be updated 8 times a day; the app is available on Google Play Store and Apple's App Store

The government has launched a mobile app so that weather information can reach people. Through this app, the weather forecast and other information about the city will be available. The app has been developed by the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune and India Meteorological Department (IMD).

It was started by Earth Sciences Minister Harsh Vardhan. Apart from weather forecasts, users can access radar images and be proactively warned of impending weather events. The ‘Mausam’ app is available on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
“This Mobile App is dedicated to the general public and designed to communicate the weather information and forecasts in a lucid manner without technical jargon,” an official release states.

Weather information of 450 cities will be available
According to the government’s claim, this app will currently show the weather conditions of 200 cities but will start releasing weather forecast reports for about 450 cities in India in the next 7 days. A 24-hour weather forecast will be given on this app. Notifications will be updated 8 times a day on this app.

Warnings will be given if the weather is dangerous
Colors have been resorted to for an easy understanding of weather updates. Weather information on the app will also be available in three colors Red, Yellow, and Orange. Also, a warning will also be issued if the weather is dangerous

“The Mausam mobile app will be an important tool for dissemination of weather information and warnings in an attractive and user-friendly manner which will meet the requirements of the public,” the statement of official release added.

The mobile app has been designed and developed jointly by ICRISAT’s Digital Agriculture & Youth (DAY) team, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, and India Meteorological Department.
