201 crores given from PM Cares fund for setting up oxygen plants, medical infrastructure

Rs 201.58 crore has been given from the PM Cares Fund for setting up 162 PSA medical oxygen generation plants. Of this, Rs 137.33 crore has been given for the supply and commissioning of the plants and Rs 64.25 crore for the management fee and comprehensive annual maintenance contract of the Central Medical Supply Store (CMAS).

The capacity of these 162 plants will be 154.19 metric tons which will be planted in 32 states/union territories. Government hospitals have been selected to install them. The plant has three years of warranty. This is followed by CAMC (Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract) for the next seven years.

The public health system will be strengthened by the installation of these plants. Also, the availability of oxygen will be strengthened. Adequate and uninterrupted supply of oxygen is a must for serious cases of Kovid-19. Apart from this, it is needed in many other medical conditions. This will not only increase the availability of oxygen in the States / UTs but also provide oxygen support to the patients in public health facilities in a timely manner.

On March 28, the Center set up the Prime Minister’s Civil Assistance and Relief (PM Cares) Fund in emergencies, whose primary objective was to deal with the current situation arising out of Covid-19 and provide relief to the affected. The Prime Minister is the ex-officio Chairman of the PM CARES Fund and the Defense Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister are ex-trustees.
