MCA appoints Sachin Tendulkar as brand ambassador of T20 league

Legendary Indian batsman and parliamentarian Sachin Tendulkar has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Mumbai Cricket Association’s T20 Mumbai League which is set to commence in March.  The MCA has announced Sachin’s appointment on Friday.

The league will offer players of MCA affiliated teams an opportunity to play the shortest format of the game. With six teams will participate in the first season of the league, the tournament is scheduled to begin on March 11 and will continue till 21.

The league will follow the suit of Indian Primer League (IPL). First MCA will launch a bid for teams which will be followed by players’ auction. The teams of the league will belong Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central and Mumbai South.

“It’s always a pleasure to be associated with the Mumbai Cricket Association. The T20 Mumbai League will not only entertain cricket fans but also provide a great platform to the talented young cricketers in Mumbai,” Sachin said.

This is not the first franchise-based league in India. After IPL has become a huge success in India Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has launched their franchised T20 cricket league. Followed by them Karnataka Cricket Association (KCSA) launched their own T20 league.

These T20 league has offered local players a platform to showcase their talent and earn some bucks from the franchises. These leagues have become a money spinner for state-based cricket associations.

Recently, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has also dished out their plan for the franchise-based league where players from Bengal will join the players’ auction to fetch a coveted deal in the franchise-based league.

Sachin Tendulkar is Mumbai cricket’s one of the big names. He played for Mumbai before he donned the blue jersey. While playing for Team India he scored more than 30000 runs and 100 centuries across the formats. He is the biggest name in Mumbai cricket circle, hence the MCA has appointed him for marketing the league.

Meanwhile, Sachin is the brand ambassador of Mumbai Indians in IPL. His inputs help Mumbai cricketers to excel in the cash-rich T20 league. It will be interesting to see how Mumbai players approach the newly launched league and whether it will have any impact in Mumbai Indians IPL team in future.
