U.S President Donald Trump prohibits entry of Foreigners from Brazil indefinitely

On Sunday the United States President Mr. Donald Trump introduced new travel restrictions on Brazil. It has been extremely affected because of the coronavirus pandemic. The restrictions will not allow foreigners to travel to the U.S. if they have travelled to Brazil any time during the 14-days prior to when their travel which is scheduled to the U.S.

“The potential for undetected transmission of the virus by infected individuals seeking to enter the United States from Brazil threatens the security of our transportation system and infrastructure and the national security,” said the suspension order published by the White House on Sunday.

The travel ban exempts the permanent U.S. residents, legal guardians of permanent residents under the age of 21, their spouse and others.

“Today’s action will help ensure foreign nationals who have been in Brazil do not become a source of additional infections in our country,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement.

“These new restrictions do not apply to the flow of commerce between the United States and Brazil.” added Kayleign McEnany.

The South American nation recently became the world’s second major hotspot for coronavirus cases.

Brazil has accounted for more than 360,000 cases and over 22,000 people have died with the virus, announced the country’s health ministry on Sunday.

The number of cases can be seen to diminish in Europe and East Asia whereas they are escalating rapidly in Brazil. The World Health Organization is calling South America the center of the pandemic.

“We hope that’ll be temporary, but because of the situation in Brazil, we’re going to take every step necessary to protect the American people,” Mr O’Brien said.

He added that “we’ll take a look at the other countries on a country-by-country basis for sure”.

China, Iran, the European Schengen area, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland had been prohibited from entering the US earlier
