Essential Oils For The Skin Problems

You must have complained many times about your skin and costly products that are required to maintain it because even after spending so much money on cosmetics, sometimes, you don’t get the desired glow and results. Then what are some alternatives to such products? Well, you must be knowing that many plants give us medicinally important products. Essential oils are one of those products. To make them, aromatic compounds are extracted from plants and they are mixed with normal oil. Mostly these oils are used in aromatherapy, but do you know that these essential oils can take care of your skin too? Following are some essential oils for the skin.

Essential oils

Niroli Oil 

Extracted from bitter orange tree blossoms, Niroli oil has a sweet, spicy and flowery smell. People are using this oil for skin for ages. It has antifungal feature and it helps in regaining the elasticity of your skin. It also eliminates free radicals and protects your skin from inflammation.

What will you need?  

  • 1 cup rosewater
  • 1 tablespoon of Aloe Vera
  • 10 drops of Niroli oil.

How to use it?  

Pour all the ingredients in a spray bottle and make sure they are mixed well. Spray the mist on your face whenever you wash it and after a shower.

Tea Tree oil

This is extracted from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia. Your skin can be saved from micro bacterial attack using this oil. Also, tea tree oil is beneficial when it comes to tan and complexion. For dry and itchy skin, this oil helps in a great way. Skin disorders like athlete’s foot, razor burn, and nail fungus, ringworm can be cured using tea tree oil.

What will you need?   

  • 1 tablespoon of Honey
  • 5 drops of tea tree oil.

How to use it?  

Mix the 5 drops of tea tree oil with honey and apply it on your skin. Keep it for 15-20 minutes and wash it off. You can use this oil daily.

Sandalwood Oil 

Obtained from the distillation of chips of sandalwood species, Sandalwood oil is one of the most used essential oils.  It makes your skin clean, clear and flawless. This oil is emollient and antiseptic. Itching and skin ageing can be prevented using this oil.  Sandalwood composition removes skin discolourations and tans. It is helpful for dry hair.

What will you need?  

  • 4-5 drops of Sandalwood and lemon oil
  • 1 tablespoon of almond oil

How to use it?  

Blend all the ingredients properly and apply the mixture on your skin. You must keep it for a minimum of 30 minutes. If you have dry skin, it is advised to keep it overnight. And then wash your skin off.

Lemon Oil

As the name suggests, this oil is extracted from the Citrus limon plants. This oil reduced your wrinkles. It also reduces sun damage, blackheads, premature ageing and acne. Remember, this oil is quite photosensitive so make sure not to apply it when you are going out.

What will you need?  

  • Carrier oil like jojoba, sweet almond, or avocado
  • 2-3 drops of lemon oil

How to use it?  

Lemon oil is diluted with a carrier oil to apply on skin or you can add it to your bath too. It is advised to avoid sun exposure for some hours after using lemon essential oils. Hence it is better to apply it before bed.

Cinnamon Oil 

This is taken from the distillation of cinnamon bark and leaves. It heals ruptures, rashes, and acne. This oil fights against bacteria, fungi, viruses, and inflammation. It is used in cosmetics which are used for skin and hair. This oil can be used for skin massage too.

What will you need?

  •  Soothing carrier oil coconut oil or honey
  •  A few drops of cinnamon essential oil

How to use it? 

By mixing carrier oil/ honey with essential oil, you can apply it on your face or affected area. Keep it for 20 minutes and then wash. You will result in the next few days.
