Fasting is compulsory for all elders excepts for those who are suffering from an illness, travelling, pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic, chronically ill or menstruating. The intention of fasting during Ramadan is to learn self-control, self-discipline, to purify the body as well as soul and to commiserate with the hungry and poor.
