Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first-ever Khelo India University at Cuttack

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday welcomed all the participants to the sports-loving state of Odisha. The grand opening of the Khelo India University Games done. The Khelo India University Games are being organized by the Central government in association with the Odisha government. The games will be held from February 22-March 1 April at Bhubaneswar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first-ever Khelo India University Games at Cuttack in Odisha. PM Modi will inaugurate the games open through video conferencing. The event will be attended by several dignitaries and sportspersons, including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.
As 3,400 athletes from 159 universities across the country will vie for top honors in 17 disciplines, including rugby which is among the six-team events.

With 191 athletes, the Panjab University in Chandigarh and 183 athletes, the Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar will comprise some of the largest contingents. The sports disciplines will include archery, athletics, boxing, fencing, judo, swimming, weightlifting, wrestling, badminton, basketball, football, hockey, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, rugby, and kabaddi.  Athletes are looking at the Khelo India University Games with the aim to make a mark not only for their institutions and themselves but also to catch the eye of a talented players. The attempt is to make the Khelo India University Games an aspirational competition for India’s youngsters with twin objectives of helping them find the balance between sport and education.

Khelo India University Games has provided a great platform for all the students to showcase their talent at the national level, Patnaik said, adding that he was optimistic that all the athletes will enjoy a comfortable stay in the sports-loving state.

The chief minister of Orrisa Naveen Patnaik said: “some of these athletes will go away with a medal, others with experiences and all with a great memory of sportsmanship and witnessing sports and sportsman spirit can inspire a generation to make our country a sporting powerhouse”.

Patnaik also thanked the Government of India, Sports Authority of India, Sports Federation, KIIT University and the state government for organizing the KIUG-2020.

The CMO of Odisha tweeted that “#KheloIndiaUniversityGames2020 in #Odisha is a unique platform for 4000+ students all over the country to compete in 17 disciplines. It furthers the nation’s mission of becoming a sporting powerhouse and preparing the youth for a global stage. #KIGOdisha2020”.
