Pakistani education activist and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has been declared as “the most famous teenager in the world” by the United Nations in the ‘Decade in Review‘ report of the UN. United Nations in its review series, took into account the events that occurred from 2010 to the end of 2013. It chronologically highlighted the devastating Haiti earthquake in 2010, the beginning of the ongoing Syrian conflict for 2011 and Malala’s work in favour of girls’ education for the year 2012.
In recognition of her efforts for children’s rights which started even before she was shot in the head two years ago by Taliban militants, Malala Yousafzai became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.

According to the UN review report “The attack made waves around the world and was widely condemned. On Human Rights Day that year, a special tribute to Malala was held at the Paris headquarters of UNESCO, pushing for action to ensure every girl’s right to go to school, and to advance girls’ education as an urgent priority,”.
“Malala’s activism and profile have only grown since the assassination attempt. She won several high-profile awards, including the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize (alongside Indian social reformer Kailash Satyarthi), and became a UN Messenger of Peace in 2017, with a special focus on girls’ education,” it added.
Recently the 22-year-old was also chosen by Teen Vogue as its cover person for its last issue of the decade.

She is known for speaking out in favour of the education of girls and highlighting the atrocities of the Taliban from a young age. She was born and brought up in the volatile Swat Valley, in the northwest of the country. She came into light in the year 2010, after she got featured in a New York Times documentary about her life in the region, as the Pakistani military entered the region and clashed with Taliban fighters.
In October 2012, Malala, and two other girls, were shot by a Taliban gunman, she was hit in the head by a bullet, but survived and eventually recovered and now doing the humanitarian work for the betterment of the world.
