India’s Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj University introduces courses on CAA and Article 370

After sensitization young minds of school children in Gujarat and Maharashtra Indian state, Uttar Pradesh jumped even forward. A separate special course on Citizenship Amendment Law (CAA) has been introduced amidst the ongoing nationwide tension on CAA. The course is introduced by Prayagraj-based Uttar Pradesh’s Rajarshi Tandon Open University. The University has labeled the course as “Awareness Program on CAA” which has already sparked heated debates and protests in several universities across India.

It’s a three-month certificate course compiled to educate people about the CAA. According to the sources, in order to make people aware of the confusion involved the university is also offering another awareness program referred to as “Jammu and Kashmir” which mainly talks about Article 370 and Article 35A.

The regional director of the University CK Singh said UPRTOU is the first educational institution in the country to take the initiative in a bid to clear the air over the issue. Singh also said when so much confusion was being spread over the CAA, this course would help people get a clear perspective of the new law.

Although the registration for both the programs has already started from Monday for the session of January. The next session will begin in July. To get enrolled in this course anyone is eligible in the country as UPRTOU is an open university. The admission fee for the course is only Rs 500. The university will provide study material as well. The students will be given assignments based on the study material and evaluated accordingly. Just like a common university course after the completion of this course too, the students would be given a certificate.

This is not a new thing by the university as it already has been offering a range of awareness programs which include Kumbh Darshan, Yoga, Good Governance, Dairy Farming. However, undergraduate, graduate and diploma courses are its backbone though just like other open universities in India.

The new courses will be supervised by the regional directorate of UPRTOU at Varanasi, will be run by all 200 centers across UP.
