President Trump criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar over her remarks in a video tweeted with reference to 9/11 terrorist attack, deadliest attack on US soil, where congresswoman can be seen saying “some people did something.”
“We will never forget!” Trump wrote.

The tweet was faced with a backlash from whole pool of Democratic 2020 runners including Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders and sen. Kamala Harris. Mayor Pete Buttigieg went on to add in a series of tweets that, “The threats against the life of @IlhanMN make clear what is at stake if we fail to to do this, and to beat back hate in all all its forms.”
After 9/11 we all said we were changed. That we were stronger and more united. That’s what “never forget” was about. Now, a president uses that dark day to incite his base against a member of Congress, as if for sport. As if we learned nothing that day about the workings of hate.

Ms. Ilhan Omar was also in controversy a few months back over her anti-Semitic comments. Entire Democratic leadership including house speaker Nancy Pelosi condemned her statement which suggesting that Jewish allies in American politics were motivated by “Benjamin” (a reference to $100 bills).
Later acknowledging her mistake she said she was ‘learning’.
“Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes,” she said in an apology.
Ilhan Omar has been in limelight for some controversies since but was defended vehemently by her young liberal left-leaning segments of Democratic party like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortex and Rep. Rashida Talib claiming she is only being targeted for being a Muslim and a woman of color but the wave of criticism definitely has overshadowed those defending her.
But since after the Trump tweet many have argued rise in level of stoking violence against the congresswoman and others in her community.
Sen. Bernie Sanders called for an end to “disgusting and dangerous” attacks on Omar.
Ilhan Omar is a leader with strength and courage. She won't back down to Trump's racism and hate, and neither will we. The disgusting and dangerous attacks against her must end.
