IIIT Delhi & IBM Research Is To Introduce Data Lifecycle Management Course

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, IIIT Delhi, in association with IBM Research, is going to introduce a course in Data Science named as ‘Data Lifecycle Management’ for the Computer Science Engineering (CSE) students of the institute. The course will be offered to the student’s pre-final year and final year UG, PG and Doctorate students. The proposed course is unique and focuses more on data management issues, different components and challenges for AI pipeline.

A statement from the Delhi-based institute stated that the Data Lifecycle Management course will help the students to understand the evolution of Data Research from Business Intelligence to AI, Artificial Intelligence to Hybrid Cloud.

The course will also highlight the different challenges through explanations involved in the management and preparation of data for Machine learning or ML applications.

The proposed course will also cover best practices to handle data to construct better ML pipelines and state-of-the-art algorithms. The Data Lifecycle Management course will be taught by Dr Sameep Mehta and Hima Patel from IBM Research, the statement added.

The course will also feature a couple of guest lectures to showcase how these principles taught are applied to build Large Scale Data Lakes. The course will also help students to understand and know how-to face real-life applications in accordance with the industry’s needs. Therefore, tackling real-world AI problems.

Vikram Goyal, HOD, Department of CSE, IIIT-Delhi said that the course will expose students to the data side of Artificial intelligence, AI pipeline with a healthy mix of theoretical concepts and hands-on labs.

The Data Lifecycle Management course 2 credit is divided into six sections which will cover

  • AI Background Refresher,
  • Framework For Operationalizing Data For AI Tasks,
  • Data Exploration,
  • Data Quality Analysis For ML,
  • Getting Data Ready For AI,
  • How All It Comes Together In A Practical Setting, and
  • Re-imagining Data in Hybrid Cloud Environments.

IBM Research AI, Dr Sameep Mehta, added in a statement that it is important for the next generation of AI (Artificial intelligence) researchers to understand the data lifecycle. In a typical AI project, around 80% of the effort is spent on cleaning, data acquisition, and preparation, whereas model learning accounts for 20%. This course will focus on teaching these AI, MI, data acquisition concepts in a principled fashion to the students.
