Hollywood cinema’s famous producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the #Metoo case. Weinstein was convicted by a New York court on a sexual abuse charge. News agency NNI quoted AFP as saying that former filmmaker Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in a sexual abuse case today.
What actually the case is?
In October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker reported that more than a dozen women accused Weinstein of sexually harassing, assaulting or raping them. Following sexual abuse allegations, Weinstein was dismissed from his company and expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexually abusing more than 100 women, including many of Hollywood’s veteran actresses by October 31. The allegations sparked the #MeToo social media campaign and many similar sexual abuse allegations against (and dismissals of) powerful men around the world. Weinstein was arrested in New York and charged with rape on May 25, 2018. His trial began on January 6, 2020, and he was also charged with rape in Los Angeles. On February 24, 2020, he was found guilty of two of five felonies in New York, charges which carry a sentence of up to 25 years. Today On 11 March 2020 he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
