Taapsee Pannu recalls the days she was marked the ‘bad luck charm’

The star in the industry throws light on the early days of her career. Stories of rejection and misogyny

Taapsee Pannu is one of the most recognized actresses we have in Bollywood today, who marked her place in the industry with some of the hit films such as Thappad, Mission Mangal, and Badla. Taapsee recently recalled the ‘bad luck charm’, a term that was used for the actress in her early days of career and times when producers were uncertain of signing her.

Talking about the same to Filmfare, Taapsee throws light on the hardships she faced, in the beginning, calling it ‘weird’. She revealed that some cast directors were not ready to cast her because she wasn’t pretty enough. Taapsee Pannu also revealed that once she was replaced because the hero’s wife didn’t want her to be part of the film. While dubbing for one of the films, she was asked to change the dialogue because the hero of the movie did not like the lines she said, and when the ‘daring Taapsee’ as we know her refused to change it, they got a dubbing artiste to do it.

There were also times when she was asked to cut down her price because the producers wanted to control the film budget as the previous film of the hero went flop! She also explained some situations where the heroes made changes to her intro scene because they felt that her entry in the film was overpowering their role in the same movie. As she ends she said that all these happened in front of her and what has happened behind her back is still undercover.

She went on elaborating on how she dealt with these times. She added that she has decided to take up films that make her happy. She also states a few advice from people who said that her decision would mark a point from where she cannot return because taking up women-driven films adds a tag and male actors would be hesitant to work with her. Taapsee said that though it is a long way and a tough one she is happy with her work and has decided to work that way.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Taapsee has some interesting projects lined up, which includes ‘Rashmi Rocket’, ‘Haseen Dilruba’ and ‘Loop Lapeta’.
